Family photography FAQs
What do you need to know about a professional family photo shoot? This FAQs section will hopefully be useful for questions you may have about booking a session with me. Click on the questions to see my answers!
WHERE DO SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?
I live in Twickenham, Southwest London and that's where my studio is as well - above Maple Leaf Pharmacy on Twickenham Green (20 The Green, Twickenham, TW2 5AB). Street parking is available. I will travel up to 30 minutes for photo shoots taking place in your home. My professional photo shoots outdoors take place in South West London, in some of the loveliest parks in London. If you live near Twickenham, you'll probably recognise the locations in my photos! I also do photo shoots in conjunction with local play and mum's groups.
HOW DO WE PREPARE FOR SESSIONS?
Family photo shoots can take place in your home, outdoors or in the studio. My main tip for photos at home is to try to remove any items which may clutter the brightest rooms in your house. For family photo shoots outdoors, just make sure that you're dressed for the weather and bring a blanket with you.
You'll want to pick outfits that complement each other. Some people choose dark bottoms with light coloured tops for everyone. Just try to avoid bright patterns or clothes with logos on them. And try not to wear any tight fitting watches or they'll show up in close-up photos if you're holding your baby.
If you're doing a studio photo shoot, I request that everyone takes their shoes off, so that may affect what you decide to wear.
Just before starting, it's a good idea to make sure everyone's ready - everyone has brushed their hair, cleaned their teeth and washed their faces! It's amazing how quickly little faces seem to get dirty. My 4 year old can attest to that!
WHAT IF IT RAINS FOR OUTDOOR SHOOTS OR MY CHILD IS ILL?
Professional photo shoots in overcast weather can turn out lovely, with even lighting bringing out everyone’s features. Unfortunately, my camera doesn’t like being outside in the rain and neither do most people! I keep a close eye on the weather and if I think the weather will be bad, we can reschedule. My rule of thumb is to make the final decision the day before.
As a mum to a 4 year old, I know that life can sometimes be unpredictable. I always allow families the option of postponing their shoot if their child is ill. Your booking fee is transferred for the rescheduled date. In the case of mini shoots, I will refund your booking fee if your spot is filled on the day. Otherwise, you can use it for your next mini shoot.
