What do you need to know about a family photo shoot?

This FAQ section will hopefully be useful for how to prepare for you session. I provide family photography in the comfort of your home, in my studio or in one of the lovely parks in and around Richmond-upon-Thames. See below for my tips!

WHERE DO SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?

I live in Twickenham, South West London and that’s where my studio is as well – above Maple Leaf Pharmacy on Twickenham Green (20 The Green, Twickenham, TW2 5AB). To get to my studio, go inside the pharmacy and follow the signs up to the clinic. Let the receptionist know you’re there for a photo shoot. If your photo shoot is on a Sunday, wait in the reception area and I will come get you!

I will travel upto 30 minutes for photo shoots taking place in your home. My outdoor photo shoots also take place near Twickenham, in arguabley some of the loveliest parks in London. If you live near me, you’ll probably recognize the locations in my photos!

HOW DO WE PREPARE FOR SESSIONS AT HOME?
Photoshoots can take place anywhere in the house, but normally centre around 2-3 rooms. These are typically the ones with the greatest natural light since I tend not to use lighting equipment if possible. One tip is to remove any items which may clutter the space and end up unwanted in the photograph.

HOW DO WE PREPARE FOR SESSIONS OUTDOORS IN A PARK?
Outdoor photo shoots are a great deal of fun. Children seem to be more relaxed and are often happier for me to take their photos than when they are in the studio. Preparing for an outdoor shoot depends on the time of year and I recommend bringing blankets to sit on if the ground is damp. It’s also worth bringing snacks or toys should we need to distract (or bribe!) little ones.
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

It’s always a good idea to choose clothes that compliment each other. A lot of families opt for dark trousers/skirts and light coloured tops. As long as you’re coordinated it doesn’t matter too much what colours you wear. If you can, try to avoid tops with logos on them or bright patterns on them.

Just before starting, it’s also good idea to make sure everyone’s ready – everyone has brushed their hair, cleaned their teeth and washed their faces! It’s amazing how quickly little faces seem to get dirty. My 3 year old can attest to that!

TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOUR STUDIO AND HOW WE PREPARE FOR A STUDIO SESSION
I have a beautiful bright and large studio above Maple Leaf Pharmacy on Twickenham Green, Southwest London. Studio sessions don’t need much more preparations than being outdoors. You can bring an extra change of clothes with you for longer sessions. I ask everyone to remove their shoes when on the studio background so that may affect your choice of clothing.
