– FAQs for a FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT –
What do you need to know about a family photo shoot?
Many families who book a family photo shoot have had photos taken before. For some, it’s the first time they’re having a family photo shoot. Either way, this frequently asked question section will hopefully be useful. I will give you even more information once you’ve booked a session with me. I provide family photography in the comfort of your home, in my studio or in one of the lovely parks in and around Richmond-upon-Thames. I also frequently do mini sessions in my studio or at different play groups near Twickenham so don’t forget to look at my ‘what’s on’ section to see what I have coming up. See below for a few tips for people who want to know more about what happens during a family photo shoot:

WHERE DO SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?
I live in Twickenham, south west London and that’s where my studio is as well – above Maple Leaf Pharmacy on Twickenham Green (20 The Green, Twickenham, TW2 5AB). I will travel upto 30 minutes for photo shoots taking place in your home. My outdoor photo shoots take place in south west London, in arguabley some of the loveliest parks in London. If you live near Twickenham, you’ll probably recognize the locations in my photos!
HOW LONG ARE YOUR SESSIONS?
My standard sessions are an hour to 2hrs depending on whether they take place outdoors, in the home or in my studio. I find that after this time children often loose steam, particularly young ones. I also do mini sessions that are 10min or 30min long. These take place in my studio and also local play groups. See my OFFERS section for details of future mini shoots.
HOW DO WE PREPARE FOR SESSIONS AT HOME?
Photoshoots can take place anywhere in the house, but normally centres around 2-3 rooms. These are typically the ones with the greatest natural light since I tend not to use lighting equipment if possible. One tip is to remove any items which may clutter the space and end up unwanted in the photograh. It’s always a good idea to choose clothes that compliment each other. Just before starting, it’s a good idea to make sure everyone’s ready – everyone has brushed their hair, cleaned their teach and washed their faces! It’s amazing how quickly little faces seem to get dirty. My 3 year old can attest to that!
HOW DO WE PREPARE FOR SESSIONS OUTDOORS IN A PARK?
Outdoor photo shoots are a great deal of fun. Preparing for them depends on the time of year and I recommend bringing blankets to sit on if the ground is damp. - WHAT IF IT RAINS?
Photoshoots in overcast weather can turn out lovely, with even lighting bringing out everyone’s features. Unfortunately, my camera doesn’t like being outside in the rain and neither do most people! I keep a close eye on the weather and if I think the weather will be bad, we can reschedule. My rule of thumb is to make the final decision the day before.
TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOUR STUDIO AND HOW WE PREPARE FOR A STUDIO SESSION
I have a beautiful bright and large studio above Maple Leaf Pharmacy on Twickenham Green, southwest London, England. Studio sessions don’t need much more preparations. You can bring an extra change of clothes with you for long sessions. I ask everyone to remove their shoes when on the studio background so that may affect your choice of clothing.
